Doudenal Switch Surgery

The second one, called bilio-pancreatic loop, carries bile from the liver to the common path.

Highly effective. The objective of this surgery is to reduce the amount of time the body has to capture calories from food in the small intestine and to selectively limit the absorption of fat.

The stomach is divided vertically from top to bottom leaving a banana shaped stomach along the inside curve. The original volume of this organ is reduced by about 80%.

The pyloric valve is left intact; that naturally regulates the release of contents from the stomach into the small intestine.

The duodenum is divided near this valve, and the small intestine is divided as well.

One of the two pathways, called the digestive loop, takes food from the stomach to the large intestine.

The portion of the small intestine connected to the large intestine is attached to the short duodenal segment next to the stomach.

The gallbladder is attached to this limb that is connected closer to the large intestine. When contents from these two segments mix it is called the common channel, which continues into the large intestine.
